Nitric Acid Transfer Pumps
A strong oxidiser that destroys the wrong polymer quietly.
Nitric acid's powerful oxidising action rules out many materials that survive other acids — including PP at higher concentrations and temperatures. PVDF is the workhorse for nitric duty in non-metallic construction; passivated SS 304 has a role in specific dilute, cold duties.
The pumping challenges
- Oxidising attack degrades unsuitable polymers from the inside
- Concentration and temperature interact strongly on material life
- Fuming nitric grades release NOx vapours on any leak
- Elastomer selection is as critical as casing material
Material options
PVDF as primary wetted construction
PTFE seal faces
FFKM or EPDM elastomers selected per concentration — never generic Viton by default
Technical considerations
- Always state concentration — below 30% and above 60% are different selections
- Temperature margin matters: oxidising attack accelerates sharply with heat
- Magnetic drive construction removes the seal-leak vapour path
- Venting and drainage arrangements reviewed at selection stage
Honest limits: no pump material is universally compatible with every concentration and temperature of a chemical. Final selection is confirmed against your exact duty — that's why we ask before we quote.

FAQs
Common questions on this duty
PVDF is the standard non-metallic choice for nitric acid across most concentrations and temperatures we encounter — but oxidising liquids punish assumptions. We confirm against your exact concentration and temperature before quoting.
