Chemical Tank Transfer Pumps

Bulk tank-to-tank transfer — the daily workhorse duty.

Tank farm and day-tank transfer is the most common chemical pumping duty: moving acids, alkalis and process liquids from bulk storage to production. Selection turns on suction arrangement (flooded vs lift), transfer rate and how completely tanks must be emptied.

The pumping challenges

  • Suction condition varies — flooded, lift, or below-grade tanks
  • Complete tank emptying without losing prime
  • Batch transfer timing against production schedule
  • Mixed chemistry across a tank farm

Material options

PP/PVDF for acids and alkalis
SS 316 for solvents and compatible liquids
Per-liquid MOC confirmation on multi-chemical farms

Technical considerations

  • Self-priming construction for above-ground pumps drawing from below
  • Flooded suction wherever the layout permits — always the first choice
  • Transfer time target stated at enquiry sizes the pump correctly
  • Isolation and flushing arrangements reviewed for multi-chemical service

Honest limits: no pump material is universally compatible with every concentration and temperature of a chemical. Final selection is confirmed against your exact duty — that's why we ask before we quote.

FAQs

Common questions on this duty

Suction-lift pumps lose prime on air ingress at low tank levels. The answers: self-priming construction (our SS 316 self-primer or a PP/PVDF arrangement), or a flooded-suction relocation. Send the tank layout sketch — we engineer the arrangement.
